Sunday, February 8 is the 105th birthday of the Boy Scouts of America.
As a scout leader and den mother in the 1970s and 80s, I learned many lessons along with my scouts. I learned how to tie a lot of knots and how to make a race car out of a wood block. I learned that little boys can be as well behaved and full of pride as you allow them to be. I learned that there are followers and leaders at all ages and that the world needs all of them.
I learned that the best way to get parents to pick their children up from meetings on time was to mention that any stray child still in my home at 8:15 would be dressed in pajamas, have their teeth brushed and be waiting on the front porch!
